If you are a student studying abroad, your chances of working part-time to supplement your income are high – if not for survival. Kudos to you! For taking on this challenge of going to a foreign nation and building from level zero. However, balancing work and study is not easy as you must effectively manage your time, effort, and energy.
So whether you’ve come because balancing work and study has become difficult, or because you want to learn before doing it, here are some methods to adopt:
You have to prioritize your studies. After all, you went through all that trouble to get better educational opportunities. University work requires full engagement and concentration! So, managing the time for completing your assignments, studying for tests, and other projects with due dates is a must
Use journals, create a to-do list, and use the apps that help with task management, anything to make you plan and make the planning process easier. Keeping track of your academic assignments will remind you to finish them on time and will provide you with a sense of accomplishment.
2. Be aware of your limits.
You may want to push your limits and do more than you can. And, pushing limits can be good to break out of your comfort zone, but it’s not feasible all the time, you can burn out. Granted that people have different burnout rates, so understand and know your limits. Do not stress more than you’re meant to.
Working should just be a way to make money and get more experience. Tell your boss what is going on. The best way to do this is to state in your job interview that you are studying before you start working.
3. Use your time wisely.
We’ve talked about managing time for work and study before, but that’s not all you need to manage time for-what about yourself?
To be able to work, study, and relax at the same time, you will need to make sure that the time you spend studying is time well spent. Study for short amounts of time with breaks in between to stay focused and avoid putting things off. Put away your phone and get some snacks. Getting rid of things that distract you and giving yourself rewards will help you finish your college work faster.
And if you do this, you’ll have more time to relax or, if you need to, work an extra shift. Don’t forget that you are a student! Make the most of your time in college, and set aside time to hang out with your friends and have fun.
4. Communicate with your employer
Ever heard – communication is the key to success in a relationship?
Yes, it applies here too! It is important to maintain a good relationship with your manager. Be straightforward about how you are handling things, your availability, any concerns you have, etc. It’s okay to say “no” if the work is too much for you. Your employer may be more accommodating than you realize and ask if there is any support available.
5. Remember why you are doing it
Put your goals where you can see them every day. When it gets too much, remember why you’re making sacrifices now. Focus on your goals, enjoy small wins, and remember this won’t last forever. Others have done it, so you can too. You wouldn’t work and go to school without a good cause.
Start using these tips today. Hopefully, these tips will make your life easier if you work and study at the same time.

Granted that studying abroad is a major boost to fulfilling your dreams, but it’s no joke. You need to be entirely aware of the processes and expenses.
Intake
Let’s start with the intake
Canadian colleges have intakes three times a year, in January, May and September. What time you choose for admissions is entirely dependent on you, but be sure to spare at least 6 to 7 months.
English language test
Then, get set up for an English language test. Why should you take the test if your English is already good? Because it acts as proof that you will be able to comprehend the classes you take. You should be able to read, write, listen and speak in English, which is essentially what IELTS and PTE tests.
If your English is already good you can learn through online sources, but you can always brush up those skills with IELTS and PTE classes. They roughly take about a month, and the prices vary according to institutions.
For the IELTS, the British Council Nepal is the sole authorized body to take the exam and costs from Rs. 23,650/- to Rs. 25,300/- depending on the type of test you take. And PTE takes a min of Rs. 20,700/- conducted by a unit of Pearson PLC group.
Courses
For your courses and institutes, start looking for those related to what you’ve studied prior in +2 or bachelors, in the institutes that are DLI (Designated Learning Institute) listed by the Canadian Government. It makes you eligible for a post-graduation work permit and to apply for a study permit. It’s the crucial process for which education consultancies can help you.
Offer letter
After you’ve been selected for the program you’ve applied for, you need to apply for the offer letter. You also need the TRF (Test Report Form) from the IELTS exam. You can check the college website or consult your education consultancy for this, taking about 14 days to 1 month. Some colleges take fees for the letter USD 80 to 100 (Rs. 9200 to 11500).
NOC (No Objection Certificate)
You will need to take NOC as soon as you’ve completed the other process. NOC will allow you to send money to your universities as fees. It’s a bit tricky because you have to show enough balance in your sponsor’s bank account. The balance should be able to cover your university fees, living costs and the cost of bearing the household of the sponsor’s family to show that you will be able to live and study there even if you don’t work. You can show this through the bank statement. Other than your parents, your grandparents are recommended to be your sponsor as they do not have familial obligations.
Address and Name verification
You might need an address and name verification in the cases where your address has changed because of the change to the federal system. And in the case of name, if in some certificates your name is Mohan Tuladhar and in others, it is Mohan Raj Tuladhar -verifying it shows that both are the name of the same person. You can make it from your ward office, approx. Rs. 1000 per certificate.
SOP (Statement of Purpose) and Certificates
Take your time with this, as it is an important element. Talk to your consultancy and look through online resources to make it better.
Be sure to have all your certificates as you will have to upload them, including your character certificate and recommendation letter.
After all these processes, you are finally ready to apply for the visa. If you are jumbled, contact us, we will gladly answer all of your questions and help you through the process.

NEW YEAR 2079 OFFERS INSIDE.
Canada’s education is top in the world, it ranks high in quality of life and it is very diverse. Understandably, students wanting to secure a promising future wish to study in Canada and spend months researching the to and fro of getting started in a new country. So, put these essentials on the ‘Plan for Studying in Canada’ checklist.
Let us start with the basics. Even though it is basic, it may not be so easy to obtain.
– A passport with an expiry date of more than six months and other official government identification.
– A copy of your medical history and report.
– A letter of acceptance, also called an acceptance letter or offer letter from your college.
– A studying permit. Which is not the same as a student visa. The difference is that a studying permit lets you stay in the country to study, whereas a student visa lets you enter the country.
Your financial plan must be on point to get the study permit. Basically, you have to give proof that you will be able to properly fund your living and tuition expenses.
You would also need the local currency (CAD Canadian dollar). You can exchange it at airport kiosks, foreign exchange desks and private money exchange businesses. Don’t forget about having a Canadian bank account, search for one that provides services for international students.
Health insurance may not be essential in Nepal, but in Canada it is. The government requires international students to have either private or provincial health insurance. Private caters to your specific needs, whereas provincial caters to health basics. You can ask the school’s international student department to find the best insurance according to your requirement.
After you get accepted into a university, you should start planning for your accommodation, preferably somewhere close. There are a few types of accommodation for international students:
– On-campus student residency: Provided by the university, it is recommended for new students, hence its high demand.
– Homestays: You live with a host family in their home for a certain rent amount.
– Apartment or houses: Recommended for later year students who know how to get around and have the budget.
All three are great options although you must consider them carefully before choosing the type of accommodation.
You must also think of your clothing. Canada is mostly-cold with short-warm summer and long-frigid winter. Its coldness must not be undermined, so be sure to pack or prepare for the winter and look up tips on how to stay warm affordably.
And finally, a primary thing you need to check off your list is your expectations of being an international student in Canada. It is not always sunshine and rainbows, as this experience will be new to many students adjusting to the working culture shall be a challenge to overcome. Working in restaurants, call centres, gas stations, etc. along with classes that may vary from 3 days to even 5 days a week, you will need to master the art of time management and work hard yet get paid minimum wage. In some cases, you may even struggle to get a job. Nevertheless, with a winning attitude to help you push and lots of patience, you will definitely get the fruits of your labour.
All these can be hard to do alone, so be sure to take help from communities and links, that is, groups of Nepalese living in Canada in the places you want to study. Establishing a connection with them can be of great help, CAN helps students link up with said groups and also ensure that they have their essentials ready to leap into this new journey.
